Omarama Gliding

November 2017 – Omarama in New Zealand is a gliders paradise, and I was so lucky to go there for two weeks with Dieter Betz, a master of gliding and former instructor at Omarama. We had our own Duo Discus for the entire duration of our stay and flew it 5 to 6 hours every day weather permitted.

Omarama is well known for it mountain waves, and already on the first day we catched the waves and flew up to 15.000 feet. On a later day we found ourselves above 26.000 feet more or less above Mount Cook before we aborted the fast ascent. Gliding at its best 🙂
