July 2024 – With my two youngest Troels and Anna and Anna’s boyfriend I went to Turkey to climb three volcanoes – Nemrut Crater, Mount Süphan (second highest mountain in Turkey) and Mount Ararat (highest mountain in Turkey)
Climbing the 2,948 m / 9,672 ft high Nemrut Crater
This was a rather easy hike with an ascent of some 600 meters. For more about this beautiful crater, see here.

Climbing 4.058 meter / 13.314 ft. Mount Süphan
Mount Süphan is the second highest mountain in Turkey. Ascent and descent is don’t in one day and the standard route is some 1,400 meters up and down. The road to the trail head was blocked though, by mud, so we ended up ascending a little more than 1,800 meters in order to reach the summit.

Climbing 5.037 m / 16.854 ft. Mount Ararat
Mount Ararat is the highest mountain and volcano in Turkey. It is also one of the Seven Second Volcanic Summits (the highest in Asia being Mount Damavand).
We spent three days climbing the volcano, ascending approximately 1,000 meters each of the three days.
