April 2024 – My sole plan for this trip was to see the US 2024 Solar Eclipse on April 8th. I ended up doing a road trip across United States from Los Angeles to Houston, crossing the zone of totality of the solar eclipse in Eagle Pass, TX. And finally a few days at Sun ‘n Fun close to Orlando where my son Søren works for Piper Aircraft.
Grand Canyon down to Colorado River
We hiked down to Colorado River in Grand Canyon. This was my third full descent of Grand Canyon, this time down and up via South Kaibab Trail.

Hiking West Fork of Old Creek Trail in Sedona
We hiked this beautiful trail in Sedona. Plan to get your feet wet as the trail crosses the creek over and over again.

Visiting Saguaro National Park

Hiking Chiricahua National Monument
Chiricahua National Monument is a little and seldom visited national monument, but a really beautiful place. We hiked the Big Loop Trail taking us to all the wild places of this place.

Visiting White Sands National Park

Experiencing the US 2024 Solar Eclipse
In order to minimize clouds, I had chosen Eagle Pass close to the Mexican border in Texas from where to experience the solar eclipse. Eagle Pass was right on the center line of the zone of totality and normally the weather would be dry and sunny in this part of Texas in spring. Unfortunately the weather didn’t do as expected, a thick layer of broken clouds hid the sun from a few seconds before totality started. Still an amazing experience though. This was my fifth solar eclipse.

Visiting Sun ‘n Fun
Before returning to Denmark I visited Sun ‘n Fun in Florida. Sun&Fun is one of the two major annual aviation shows in US, Oskosh being the other one. My son Søren works for Piper Aircraft and would be at their exhibition throughout the show.
