March 2023 – Yo lo hice. I did it. I reached the 6,893 meter / 22,615 feet summit of Ojos del Salado, highest volcano in the world, highest mountain in Chile, second highest mountain in South America. And also second highest mountain in the entire America. Less than hundred meters lower than the highest one, Aconcagua in Argentina.
I climbed with High Mountain Expedition and their guide Christian Ordenes. I highly recommend both the agency and the guide 🙂 We spent 8 hours climbing the volcano, and 5 hours getting down again (including breaks).
This is my forth of the Volcanic Seven Summits. In December 2013 I summited Mt. Kilimanjaro, highest volcano in Africa. In July 2015 I summited Mt. Damavand, highest volcano in Asia. And in November 2019 I summited Pico de Orizaba, highest volcano in North America.
During the trip we did four acclimatization hikes. One of these were to the summit of 6,040 meters / 19,816 feet Volcán San Francisco.
Hope you enjoy my pictures from this trip. I enjoyed every minute of the trip, even when it was hardest climbing near the summit of Ojos del Salado 🙂
