August 2022 – My Cessna 185 was parked in Talkeetna, Alaska, early summer 2022, and now I had the chance to come back and fly it for a week before taking it back to California. A very good pilot friend of mine – Michael Lemvig Olsen – joined me on this trip, this was his first trip to Alaska.
Weather forecast for the week was not fantastic, to say the least. With mostly low pressure systems allover, good weather was hard to find, but central east Alaska was our best bet, and it turned out to work perfectly for us. We ended up having calm weather with high clouds, some sunshine and only very little rain.
The route from Talkeetna (PATK) took us to Wolf Lake (4AK6), Lake Hood (PALH), Picnic Strip at Knik Glacier, Chitina (CXC), McCarthy (PAMX), Gulkana (PAGK), Tok Junction (PFTO), Chicken (CKX), Eagle (PAEG), A gravel bar along Yukon River south of Circle City for camping, Circle City (PACR), Fort Yukon (PAYU), Yet another gravel bar along Yukon River for camping, Tanana (PATA), Manley Hotsprings (PAML), Fairbanks Intl. (PAFA), Denali Natl. Park (PAIN) and finally back to Lake Hood (PALH).
We camped for four days, first day at the ramp on Gulkana airport, second day on a camping ground just next to Tok Junction airport. And the last two nights on Yukon River gravel bars.

That is very mind blowing
