Dobbiaco 2020

Early January 2020 – This was my 7th trip to the Alps for flying hot air balloons, and the first year where we were three Danish balloons attending the annual and very cozy Dolomiti Balloonweek. The other two Danish balloons were flown by Philip and Christoffer Mundt.

The weather was just fantastic. Six days with sunshine from a clear blue sky, frost and lots of snow. All days with calm weather in the valley and five consecutive days with flyable winds aloft. Only the first day were the upper winds too strong for us, the winds were forecast to change from 0 to 55 knots within thousand feet. Flyable yes, but we choose a day of downhill skiing.

This year I had my dad joining me on my team.

First flight – Dobbiaco to Belluno

Flight 2 – Valley flyin on Dobbiaco

Flight 3 – Slow flight from Dobbiaco to Belluno

A very interesting flight as we never had more than 18 knots, and most of the time between 12 and 15 knots, barely enough to make it to Belluno. The flight lasted for 3:55 hours and we landed safely with just one hour of gas.

Flight 4 – Dobbiaco to Lienz

This flight was a valley flight from Dobbiaco to Lienz, but with views from above the tops from time to time.

Flight 5 – From Dobbiaco to Zell am See

This flight turned out to be a very successful flyin on Grossglockner, highest mountain in Austria. The top is at 12,461 feet and we flew right over the top at 14,000 feet.
