Flying trips out of Talkeetna

In June 2019, after flying my Cessna 185 up from California, i stayed in Talkeetna for two weeks together with my good friend Lennart and five Danish flying guests who had come to Alaska with us to see what Alaska could offer to pilots flying small airplanes. They all took their Float rating and their Bush course with Don Lee at Alaska Skis and Floats while I went on a number of smaller tours out of Talkeetna.

First tour was an overnight stay at Bob Breeden’s house south of Anchorage on the Kenai Peninsula. I flew down there in my Super Cub and for a whole day he showed me around to a lot of beautiful places around Kenai. Kenai Fjords with all its glaciers going into the sea is really one of the most awesome places in Alaska.

Second tour was with my good friend Tue into McGrath via Rainy Pass forth and back. McGrath is a very special place, so far away from anything else and placed between river switchbacks so the tiny village and the rather big airport has the river to all sides. On the way back we did a couple of landing in the mountain strip 8AK, a strip which was built in 1938 for the Iditarod race.
