Baja California

Early February 2019 my girlfriend, her son and I went on a flight down Baja California in my newly repainted 1978 Cessna 185. This was my first trip down to Mexico and to make it easy for myself I joined the Whales 2019 trip arranged by Baja Bush Pilots (www.bajabushpilots.com).

And what a trip. Everything went perfect (except that my mechanic couldn’t find my CoA on the day of departure from Lincoln, CA). Crossing the border southbound turned out to be much easier than expected. Flightplan was easily done via ForeFlight and all the eApis stuff was as easily done via Baja Bush Pilots’s fantastic web site. Once airborne from Imperial a few miles north of the border, Los Angeles Center just wished us a nice day and Mexicali Tower controlling a huge controlled airspace south of the border just asked us to report 50 miles south of the border! 4 hours and 15 minutes later we landed in Loreto and was allowed to refuel before immigration. Immigration went smoothly, with nice help from Baja Bush Pilots staff.
