August 2017 – This was my 4th Solar Eclipse, my 2nd with a cloud-free sky. With 100.000+ other solar eclipse chasers we drove into sleepy Madras, Oregon, a tiny town right on the centerline of the solar eclipse.
On August 11, 1999 I saw my first solar eclipse from southern Germany. The weather was rather bad but we managed to see the spectacular phenomenon through a hole in the clouds.
On July 22nd, 2009 I experienced my second solar eclipse. A thick layer of stratus made it impossible to see anything, except for the longest period of darkness during a solar eclipse in the 21st century (up to 6 minutes and 39 seconds).
On March 20, 2015 I saw my third solar eclipse from a cloud free, crystal clear, calm and freezing cold position in Svalbard 78 degrees north.
And then finally, on August 21, 2017 I saw this Great American Eclipse spanning the entire contiguous United States.
Look here for future solar eclipses. I will be along the centerline in December 14, 2020, maybe in June 21, 2021 and for sure in April 8, 2024.
